Location: Sanford Historic Welcome Center
230 E. First Street, Sanford, Fl.

Learn how to make the large lighted balls that were seen on the streets of Sanford last holiday season.

Bring your own materials or purchase materials at workshop. (Supplies limited)

Needed materials for each lighted ball:

  • 36” X 36” chicken wire. Available at Ace Hardware
  • 2 strands of lights – 100 bulbs each
  • Work gloves

“Defining & Celebrating Our “Sense of Place”
Speaker: Author, preservationist, naturalist Bill Belleville
The Sanford Welcome Center Tuesday, November 1, 7 p.m.

Bill Belleville is an award-winning author and documentary filmmaker specializing in nature, conservation and “sense of place.” He’s authored six books, over 1,000 magazine articles and essays, and produced and scripted four PBS films. He’s traveled widely overseas on assignment for the Discovery Channel, including the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, the Peruvian Amazon, Central America, and the Galapagos. As a diver/writer, he was aboard the first American oceanographic expedition to Cuba.

Sanford Historic Preservation Officer Christine Dalton gives Trust members an update on current projects:

  • City-wide wayfinding
  • Right-of-way uses in the downtown
  • Heritage markers on Sanford Avenue
  • Use of QR codes to promote the City’s historic resources

Christine will take questions/suggestions from Trust members as to what projects/issues/actions we would like to see the city pursue. What would you like to share?

Hearing on the Sun Trust Bank Building

August 17th at 5:30 p.m.

City Commission Chambers

The next Historic Preservation Board meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, August 17th, at 5:30 pm in the commission chambers will have a hearing for the Sun Trust Bank building on 1st street to receive permission to demolish the building and build a new (historic looking) building and drive thru tellers.  A portion of the lot would be sodded and fenced in to be used as future development.

Awards Announced!



Preservation Awards

Homes selected for preservation awards are 1100 S Park Avenue, 1214 S Myrtle Avenue, 1505 S Palmetto Avenue, 130 N Scott Avenue.

Award presentation will take place Monday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the City of Sanford regular City Commission meeting at 300 North Park Avenue.

A reception with refreshments will follow at the Higgins House Bed & Breakfast, 420 S. Oak Avenue.
