UCF Business Incubator Conference Room
110 W 1st Street, Sanford

We are happy to announce that Alicia Clarke, curator at the Sanford Museum, will be the guest speaker at our general membership meeting on September 6, 2011 at 7 p.m.

About the Sanford Museum

The Sanford Museum houses exhibits illustrating the history of the City of Sanford and the life and times of City founder Henry S. Sanford.

Built as a memorial to Henry Shelton Sanford, the museum houses his library and manuscript collection as well as a collection of 19th century decorative arts which belonged to the Sanford family. Henry S. Sanford, 1823-1891, was a lawyer, diplomat, and innovator in the production of citrus. His papers reflect his entire career and contain information on diplomatic matters and business during the Victorian age. His library contains books and magazines in seven languages which cover law, politics, religion, science, and popular fiction.

Expanded in 1973 and in 1993, the museum serves as a repository for the city’s history. Research collections are available to the public.

August 17th at 5:30 p.m.

City Commission Chambers

The next Historic Preservation Board meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, August 17th, at 5:30 pm in the commission chambers will have a hearing for the Sun Trust Bank building on 1st street to receive permission to demolish the building and build a new (historic looking) building and drive thru tellers. A portion of the lot would be sodded and fenced in to be used as future development.

It’s important for members to be informed of this hearing and have an opportunity to attend, and or voice their concerns or approval. This is the first of two public meetings on this matter before the HPB board makes their decision.
